The sheer amount of crazy good cosplayers walking around the four hotels of DragonCon on Friday makes it necessary to divide the gallery of shots I took into two parts, just to keep down the load time for you all. Among the cosplayers in this gallery are Gina B Cosplay, Miggy Jagger, Lindsey the Pirate and […]
OK, it is weird talking about myself in the third person, but what can you do? Here is the gallery of cosplay pictures FirstPerson Shooter (me) took Thursday evening at DragonCon 2014. In case it looks like an abundance of bunnies and underwear, Thursday night at the Pulse Loft bar in the Marriott was a lingerie/pajama […]
Friday at DragonCon 2014 was even more crowded than anticipated, easily outdoing the number of people squeezed into the atrium level of the Marriott than managed to squeeze in last year. That didn’t stop Bentpic5 from shooting there, or all over the four con hotels, on Friday. Check out his great photos of amazing cosplayers […]
While DragonCon didn’t officially start until 12:01 a.m. Friday, on Thursday the three main host hotels were already packed with attendees, many of them already in costumes and cosplay. This year we are lucky enough to have Bentpic5 on the scene, giving us daily deliveries of his outstanding pictures. Below is his gallery from Thursday. As the weekend […]
Want to see some epic Kill La Kill cosplay? Of course you do! We interviewed C&C Cosplay Factory and Sarah Fong about their awesome Satsuki and Ryuko cosplay at Otakon 2014. And check out some great photos below! Interviewer: Lauren Grant Cameraman: Adam Etheridge
According to an article on the site CinemaBlend, the two writers and directors of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Joe and Anthony Russo, told their interviewer that they are hoping to load up Captain America 3 with piles of Marvel Heroes — way more than even the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron, if the comic series […]
At Otakon 2014, we took a few moments to talk to cosplayer Ely Renae about her awesome genderbent Ganondorf cosplay from the popular Legend of Zelda series. If you want to see more of her cosplays, you can find them on her Facebook page here! Interview conducted by Lauren Grant. Photos and video by Adam Etheridge.
Who doesn’t remember the days of World of Warcraft — OK, actually they’re still here, but who really plays that anymore? — Or Habbo Hotel? I certainly remember getting on AIM instant messenger and telling my friends to meet me in the main hall of said games and exploring for hours on end. And when […]
Saturday at Otakon this year our photographer Adam Etheridge nabbed a whole passel of pictures of great cosplays, including a number of outstanding groups. He even managed to sneak in a shot of the ice cold water guy! Among the many cosplayers Adam got photos of is Maki Roll, in her amazing Ryuko in Senketsu armor […]
How do you forget the long line problems that plagued Otakon 2014? Chat with Yaya Han! Interviewer Lauren Grant talked to cosplay superstar Yaya Han about Super Sonico, cosplay as fun, mastering Google Fu other fun topics. And check out the photos by Adam Etheridge and AshB Images!
Last issue, series launch artist Adrian Alphona was replaced by Jake Wyatt, who did an estimable job on Ms. Marvel #6. This issue he committed what is a cardinal art sin in my mind — resorting to turning a character into a chibi version to express an extreme reaction. First, let me say I understand […]
Sunday at Boston Comic Con might have had as many cosplayers on site as Saturday did, but most of them seemed to be headed right to the Cosplay Contest pre-judging, so the number of random floor shots is smaller. But still there was an impressive display of cosplayers and costumes wandering the show floor. Among the […]
Cyborg and Beast Boy drag Raven all over Boston Comic Con 2014. Can even Raven save them from their mischief? Or will the eternally grumpy Raven leave them to their fates? Filmed at the Boston Comic Con 2014 Beast Boy is Brian W. Raven is Tatiana A. Cyborg is Kurt B.
Despite an initial problem that frustrated many attendees looking to do an early pickup of their badges, Otakon 2014 was by all accounts a success, and as usual featured many outstanding cosplayers and costumes. We had Adam Etheridge on the scene at the Baltimore Convention Center, and he supplied us with these excellent images.
One of our contributing photographers, Alex Valderana, is also the man behind the webseries Nightwing: Escalation, and it has just launched its second season, this year with a new, more feline, lead. In addition to being writer, producer and director, Alex plays Agent Brooks. Check out what he has to say about it below. “Hey Nightwingers […]
For a second year in a row, Boston Comic Con was held at the Seaport World Trade Center in South Boston. While I have no official numbers yet, it seemed clear that the con set a record, not only for total attendance (after all, it was three days long for the first time) but likely also for single day […]
If you are going to do a gijinka (humanized or anthropomorphic for those not up on Japanese cosplay terms) version of Ampharos from Pokemon, doing it in the style of the movie Burlesque is a great choice. That is what Jess from Jaycee Cosplay did at ConnectiCon in July, and our photo editor, Kiera from […]
At Otakon 2014, we interviewed many cosplayers about this question: “What is something you should never say to a cosplayer?” The answers are as varied and interesting as the cosplayers themselves, but one general trend seems to emerge throughout — don’t say something judgmental. Check out the answers in the video below, from the funny (the […]
OK, I have said before that the Reporter’s Notebook style article should happen during an event, but, hey, I was tired. That said, below are my impressions of this year’s Boston Comic Con, it’s second at the Seaport World Trade Center in South Boston. Line management and volunteer workforce size has improved, but both still need […]
One the bright side, at least no one has been offered time in the ball pit. Last night hundreds of people, possibly more than one thousand, waited in line for three hours or more to pick up their pre-registration badges at Otakon, and the vast majority of them left empty-handed. While that would be enough […]
At this point in the summer we are in the thick of Summer Anime Season. As a general note pilots can be rough. While they give an idea of what the series will become the show can radically change once the show gets its bearings. With that in mind and since most anime are currently […]
In late June, the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City on Long Island played host to Eternal Con, a two-day convention for comic book enthusiasts and pop culture fans alike. Among the guests were comic book movie veteran Ray Park, Colossus from the X-Men movies Daniel Cudmore and wrestler Mick Foley. Our own photo editor Kiera […]
The new Disney XD TV series Star Wars Rebels won’t premier until October, but producers of the new animated series Lucasfilm Animation and Disney Television Animation have released a 7:40 clip of the opening episode. And it is exciting, familiar and does an excellent job of getting you involved in the characters and their situation right […]
If Farscape and Star Wars had a baby, and it grew up to be a stand-up comedian, it would be Guardians of the Galaxy. That is high praise, by the way not a dig. Guardians takes the best crazy alien design and super advanced tech ideas of Farscape and blends them with the awesome action […]
Cosplayers, science fiction and horror fans, and just fans of movies in general, a legend has passed on today. Dick Smith, who many of you may not know, died today, according to Variety.com and his protege and longtime friend Rick Baker. If you have been inspired by movie make up to get into cosplay or […]
After growing up in a household with a big Dragon Ball Z fan (my older brother) and being the butt of his many random Kamehameha attacks I felt compelled to watch the new Dragon Ball Z film, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. And because the Dragon Ball series played a roll, or shall I […]
Nothing is true, everything is permitted. It’s that time of the year again where we can take to the rooftops, use our Eagle Vision, traverse the rooftops, and air assassinate Templars. Assassin’s Creed Unity is on its way to consoles this Fall, with a lot of changes coming our way from previous games. The new […]
While there were some outstanding video teasers and trailers shown during the recent Comic Con International: San Diego, it seems like the most exciting ones have been held until the day after the con closed. First up is the shorter of the two, the new trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. […]
Yesterday we posted a block of videos first displayed at Comic Con International: San Diego, and today we have a few more. The most exciting for me is the look at season 3 of Arrow, but that is because I know how good this show is already. Moving the action shown in the flashbacks off […]
The 2014 iteration of Comic Con International: San Diego (more commonly known by its older name of San Diego Comic Con) is now two days old, and already we have seen plenty of videos, trailers and teasers for upcoming TV shows. Below we’ve aggregated some of the best. Let’s start with the video that greeted […]
We interviewed Alpha Team Cosplay about her alternative version cosplay of one of the key members of Mystery Inc. at AnimeNEXT 2014. Jinkies, indeed! Photos by Cantera Cosplay.
We interview Lolita’s Requiem about her Kill La Kill cosplay at AnimeNEXT 2014. While there were plenty of Ryūko Matoi cosplayers at the New Jersey convention in mid-June, she managed to pull off Senketsu’s Blade Flash form. Photos by Cantera Cosplay.
Time to play with guns, guns, and more guns. Because one of the craziest co-op games is making its return to consoles this year, in the form of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. For those of you who never played a Borderlands title before, it is a four-player co-op, first person shooter with RPG elements. Though Borderlands […]
Just because it is meaningless doesn’t mean I won’t indulge myself in speculating anyway. The website IGN today posted an article in which it interviews head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, about the future plans for upcoming Marvel movies. The interview tries to clarify some of the vagueness in the release Marvel put out three […]
Quite a few anime styles catch my interest, from horror, to comedy to ecchi (of course) to even romance if it is written well. But my main interests are fantasy and – top of the list — science fiction. So when I find a really smart, well-written science fiction anime, I just have to share the news. […]
A couple of days ago, Marvel revealed on the daytime talk show The View that the power and name of Thor will for the first time be wielded by a woman. Thor gets stripped of his powers and responsibilities and they are given to someone else worthy, in this case a blonde warrior that has […]
Couldn’t get enough cosplay goodness from the Saturday gallery of photos from this year’s ConnectiCon? Then you are in luck, because here we have the Sunday photos. While the number is less than half that of Saturday’s gallery, the quality is still top notch.
Today, July 15, was the debut of the new 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set from the Wizards of the Coast. While the new rules set that accompanies the entire starter kit can be had for free, by downloading it as a PDF, the starter set includes a complete set of dice, a beginner’s […]
The Internet is blowing up over the phenomenally accurate cosplayer Real Life Peter Griffin, who was doing standup to fill time during the judges’ deliberations at the most recent Great Allentown Comic Con. But we were lucky enough to have our own Unemployed Skeletor interview him at New York Comic Con last fall. Watch as […]
The old guard convention in Hartford, Conn., is ConnectiCon, an anime-heavy general nerd interest convention held at the Connecticut Convention Center, right on the edge of the Connecticut River. While ConnectiCon is experiencing the pains of being a convention more than a decade old, it still manages to draw some of the most talented cosplayers in […]
One game that has always been a guilty pleasure of mine is one of the Dynasty Warrior games. Though they may not be the best of games, playing alongside one of my friends made for a fun time. So you could color me super surprised when I found out there was a Dynasty Warrior-style Legend […]
I have been a big fan of Marvel Comics’ title Original Sin since it launched. The writing is solid, the artwork by Mike Deodato is absolutely top notch and the concept is very intriguing. But with one big reveal that happened in the latest issue, #5, I think writer Jason Aaron has gone too far […]
I have a plan. It’s not a full plan to talk about the sneak peek at Guardians of the Galaxy, but it’s a plan. Like, a 12 percent plan. Anyhee, I was lucky enough to attend a 17-minute preview of Guardians Monday night and I am SO GLAD I saw it! Non-spoiler impression: The one scene they […]
It was one of the most anticipated reboots of any rebooted popular media in the last few years. Sailor Moon Crystal was announced last year, and the hype meter pinned, driven by the squeeing of millions of fans of the original Sailor Moon series. The new series debuted this past weekend, and more than one […]
Sadly Nintendo has been losing out on both the console wars, and on sales. With the launch of the Wii U going all the way back to 2012, and two new consoles from both Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo’s newest console does not stand out like it did briefly when it was first released. The company showed […]
OK, I know it is the anniversary of the start of the American Revolution, not the actual birth of the country, but who lets facts get in the way of celebrating? Not us ‘Mericans! Below is a gallery of some of my favorite shots of cosplayers celebrating the red, white and blue. Not all are […]
Coming off the amazing success of the PlayStation 4, Sony had only one thing to do at E3 2014 to keep its lead over it’s competitors — show off games. At that moment Sony only needed to show off some new grade A games that will grab the attention of its legion of fans, and […]
Double Stomp Productions was at HeroesCon and sent us these wonderful photos of some of the great cosplayers that were there this year. Below is part one of the con coverage from Double Stomp’s Willie Brown. Keep checking back on Nerd Caliber to see Part Two, and don’t forget to visit Double Stomp Productions’ Facebook […]
