Unlike The Con, Nauticon Gallery Isn’t 21+ – Much

Before the tourist season starts in Provincetown, Mass., the very last resort on the very tip of Cape Cod, the Provincetown Inn, is completely taken over by Nauticon. The name is both a reference to the nautical nature of P-town (as it is known), which still has a working fishing fleet, and the fact that it is only open to people 21 and older, making naughty behavior more likely than at most cons.

In keeping with the name — and to be fair, with my reputation as FirstPerson Shooter — I ran a panel this year called “Perfecting the Art of the Cosplay Booty Shot.” Helping me out as models were my friends The Scarlet Muse, Sandra Hiltz Cosplay and Jillian Alenko, and they are in the gallery as the cowgirl inspired by MLP’s Applejack, Liliana from Queen’s Blade 2 and a rogue from D&D, respectively.

Also typical of the fun was the event “Cosplay Body Painting,” run by Maggie and Mackenzie. Those photos are the two models that start out in white underwear, Jack and Sio, who get progressively covered in paint. The randomly chosen characters were Dr. Robotnik for Sio and Snow White for Jack. Sio and her team of three painters won the event, based on audience response.

Other events included “Drunken Karaoke” (yes, that seems redundant) and “Drunken Fiction,” in which a trio of panelists were asked to explain a work of fiction while well in their cups. Yes, you are seeing a theme here.

The last two photos in the gallery are not cosplay or nerdy at all, but are two members of the coolest family at the convention, the mother fox and her kits. Yes, that is a mother fox running along the roof peak of the inn, and a kit looking for a snack at the base of the seawall.

Photo gallery tips: Once the page loads, you will see the Forward and Back navigation arrows above the image, in case you want to scroll faster than the preset. And to see the entire gallery as thumbnails, click on the gray four-box square next to the navigation arrows.
