Trash Talk: Nerd Caliber versus TMZ

If you go on Youtube and start looking for San Diego Comic Con cosplay videos, you will notice two types of coverage. One shows how the art and culture of cosplay is portrayed at the convention. The other is “How did you stuff your tits in there?” That line’s from KaseemG, a popular Youtube comedian and interviewer whose talent is overshadowed by large amounts of cleavage in his SDCC reports. Youtube reporters have the right to show whatever they want with their channel just as I have the right to stop watching them. At least it seems that the women in their videos are going along with their malicious sense of humor. I think.

However, no cosplay video has made me as upset, so far, as TMZ’s coverage of the San Diego Comic Con.

Why does it bother me? Well one, they labeled cosplayers as “whackos” and “delusional.” They laughed at them and joke that these Disney princess cosplayers must be taking drugs. And what upsets me the most is that they took advantage of them. I’m sure some of you are thinking that those princesses brought it upon themselves, but let me share with you a tidbit about the power of video editing. You can take anything out of context, and twist it to fit your agenda. Do you really think that when TMZ approached them, they knew that the organization would trash them so harshly?

My point is this: If you are a cosplayer at a convention and someone wants to interview you, make sure you know who they are and be careful what paperwork you sign. There are people in this world that wouldn’t mind making an extra dollar in their pocket if it meant making you look foolish in front of millions.

  1. Good Call Ortiz, I never even thought about it like that. I’ve seen a couple of this clowns ridicule or harass people mid interview and never even considered it could happen to my friends or myself. Def. a good idea to keep your guard up these days against the h8rs.

  2. Disney Princess Cosplayers and some of the most fun and sweetest people on the planet. To bash them in any way is akin to kicking a puppy. You sould remove their vid as to not give them further plays and just sum up what they said. Then we just focus on spreading the word for cosplayers and fans alike to just turn their backs when the interviewer says they are from that outlet.
