“We’re Doomed” Board Game Is Cathartic To These Times

Everyone is taking the correct actions in staying at home during the season of the coronavirus, whether it’s because of schools closing, travel bans, sports seasons ending, not wanting to spread or catch it, and/or working from home. But we are social creatures, and this may be a good time to try out some fun board games while we wait for this emergency to pass. If you are looking for a fun, “apocalyptic-theme” game that might also work as a catharsis during these times, then may I recommend to you We’re Doomed by Breaking Games.

Since its release in 2019, this game is one of my favorite games in my collection. It is both a cooperative game and full of treachery, sort of like real-life politics. In We’re Doomed, you play as one the most powerful leaders in the world, and you have only fifteen minutes to build an escape rocket and leave this doomed planet. With limited time to build the rocket, it might not be big enough for everyone. You have to work together. However, in the end, only the most influential survive. Or, as the website puts it:

You, the most powerful leaders in the world, have only fifteen minutes to build an escape rocket and leave this doomed planet. With limited time to build the rocket, it might not be big enough for everyone. You have to work together. However, in the end, only the most influential survive. Contribute resources to build the rocket, but gain influence to claim a seat… possibly one that someone else built.

For a game dealing with different ways on how the world ends, it’s a stress reliever. The event cards are full of comedy and always draws huge laughs at the gaming table. It also comes with this huge, pretty hourglass, that is used to time the game to fifteen minutes (that I also use for my roleplaying games). If you and your family and friends have a crazy sense of humor and looking to find something fun to do, I can’t think of anything more suited right now than We’re Doomed!
