Black Lives Matter: Luke Cage and Riri Williams Retrospective Gallery

We continue to support those trying to fix the problem of police violence against black Americans and other people from communities of color through protest and social pressure. In addition to our behind the scenes support we decided to post retrospective galleries of cosplays of POC characters, featuring black cosplayers.

This gallery includes two Marvel comics characters — one created way back in 1972 and one just in 2015. Luke Cage (Power Man) first appeared in Luke Cage: Hero for Hire #1, making him the first black hero to have his own comic book title. Riri Williams (Ironheart) first appeared in  Invincible Iron Man Vol. 2 #7, eventually taking over the title in 2016, replacing Tony Stark. She had her own 12-issue series starting in 2018.

In the Luke Cage gallery there are also photos of Misty Knight cosplayers, usually with Luke, but I included the few solo photos of Misty cosplayers since most people associate her with the Luke Cage universe because of the Netflix series.

Cosplayers in this gallery include Cantera Image, Dominycanknyght Cosplay, Colen P Cosplay, Everyone’s Hero Cosplay, statuesque_yoki, and many more.

We now use Smugmug to present cosplay photo galleries and will post all photos there, with a link to each gallery in its own gallery article. This will allow us to give you higher resolution images to download — still for free.
