Black Lives Matter: Black Geeks of DragonCon Shoot By BNH Photography

Back in Sept. 2019, long before much of the general population had enough of the abuse of power by police and other authorities against people of color, we sent Brian of BNH Photography to DragonCon in Atlanta. One of the events he was excited to shoot there was the meetup of the Facebook group Black Geeks of DragonCon.

As a general rule, I don’t like shooting at large meetups — at least not shooting the large group photos that most people are there to participate in. It is very difficult for anyone to get a good look at the cosplayers in the resolution we use for our galleries. So as an editorial policy, we rarely include them in galleries. We were happy to make an exception in this case, to support the ongoing and expanding presence of black nerd culture.

Also working DragonCon for us last summer, and in this gallery, is Chocolate Ninja Cosplay. You can see his Question of the Day interviews on YouTube, asking “Who is scarier, Joker or Pennywise?” And our other photographers on the scene were Blake of Bentpic5 or Gregg of Wonderllama Photography., so check out their many galleries using the Search feature.

We now use Smugmug to present cosplay photo galleries and will post all photos there, with a link to each gallery in its own gallery article. This will allow us to give you higher resolution images to download — still for free.
