Captain Marvel Retrospective Gallery On News Of The Sequel Getting A Director

Yesterday Marvel announced that the upcoming Captain Marvel 2 will have Nia DaCosta as its director. DaCosta directed the yet-to-be released Candyman reboot. While DaCosta isn’t known for much, her indie film Little Woods made producer Jordan Peele to personally pick her to helm the reboot.

Because the movie is about Carol Danvers and called Captain Marvel, I chose only photos of cosplayers in the costume redesign that launched in July 2012 or various outfits from the movie. Oh, and a bunch of mashups and personal interpretations, like the mashup of genderbent Marvel’s Captain Marvel and DC’s Captain Marvel, or the gown version from Lady Cels, or the mashup of Danvers and Lilith from Borderlands by Cool By Proxy Productions.

I had to look up the first costume, the cheek-baring red and black body suit, because I remember reading it in a comic titled Captain Marvel. But it turns out, her first appearance as a superhero was in Ms. Marvel #1 in 1977, so she had that name from the very beginning. That means, alas, no photos of cosplayers in any of the Ms. Marvel, Binary or Warbird suits.
