Game Bites: The New Switch Isn’t A Pro, And Sony States Its Play

Welcome back Nerd Caliber fans to your weekly game news round up. There wasn’t much news this week in the realm of gaming but the news we did receive from one company has had many on the fence wondering if it was worth the wait. 

Nintendo surprised fans by unveiling an update of the Switch hardware, calling it the Nintendo Switch (OLED model). This new version improves upon the regular Switch, including the addition of an OLED screen, enhanced audio, LAN port and more. While it’s not the long-rumored upgraded Switch Pro model that many fans had hoped for, it still represents the next step forward for the handheld console. The Nintendo Switch OLED will be arriving in stores Oct. 8 and will sell for $349.99 USD at launch. Let us know what you think of this in our comment section below. 

Sony had a State of Play event and showed off a couple of upcoming games with a focus on Deathloop, which comes out Sept. 24. Other games shown during their short State of Play were the VR game Moss Book II; Arcadegeddon, an upcoming third-person co-op loot shooter that takes place in a colorful cyberpunk future; Hunter’s Arena: Legends, a 30-player, melee-focused fantasy battle royale game; F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch, a dieselpunk metroidvania; a new trailer for kung fu fighter Sifu; a new trailer for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicle; and a new trailer for Death Stranding: Director’s Cut. Sony concluded the State of Play with a nine-minute breakdown of Deathloop‘s gameplay and story.

There weren’t many this week but we did get some good games released. Released on  the 6th we had A Plague Tale: Innocence (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch) and Ys IX: Monstrum Nox (Switch, PC). On the 8th, Sam & Max: This Time It’s Virtual! (Quest) was released and on the 9th was the long teased Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings Of Ruin (Switch, PC).
