MegaCon 2021 Cosplay Craftsmanship Cup by Wonderllama Photo
My last convention was KatsuCon in February 2020. Like everyone, it’s been tough to go 18 months without seeing friends, taking cosplay photos, and talking myself out of buying 37 new prints I have no space for. So I was incredibly excited to work for MegaCon Orlando 2021.
With the Masters of Cosplay contest series on hold this year, Fan Expo put on the smaller-scale Cosplay Craftsmanship Cup. While there were fewer competitors, the level of artistry and skill they brought to their cosplays was truly incredible. I had the privilege of shooting all the contestants. It took a little time to shake off 18 months of rust and get back into the groove of shooting with people, but it came back in a flash (photography pun!).
Quick note about covid safety at MegaCon. The organizers at Fan Expo made everyone’s health a priority. Masks were required indoors for all staff, volunteers, and attendees at all times. We were given a large, socially-distanced space for the costume contest judges and contestants. We maintained 6-8 feet while shooting photos with people, who only briefly removed masks while shooting. And everyone I spoke to was vaccinated.
