Fan Expo Boston 2021 Gallery Friday And Saturday 1
Last weekend I attended Fan Expo Boston, the first convention I had been to in 18 months. The last convention was PAX East in late February and early March of 2020. To say that I missed it would be selling my feelings short. But after almost two years without going to a con to take photos of cosplayers, I has stress dreams the night before about equipment failures and missing gear — just like when I first started shooting cosplay at cons.
My worries about if I would even remember how to set up my backdrop and studio were unfounded. Oh, yeah, we once again had a studio next to the judging space for the cosplay contest, this year dubbed the Cosplay Craftsmanship Cup. While the number of entrants to the contest was down from pre-pandemic years, the quality was as amazing as usual.
The ongoing pandemic (Yes, it is ongoing. Look at the hospitalization numbers from covid in states with low vaccination rates.) caused Boston to implement a mandatory mask policy for all indoor events. So everyone in the Boston Convention And Exhibition Center wore masks nearly all the time. Eating was one exception and we allowed cosplayers to take off their masks once they were on the backdrop cloth, since it was more than 6 feet away from where I was shooting. Many chose to do so, some chose not to and both choices were fine with us.
Because of likely various reasons mostly related to the pandemic, attendance was down overall from previous years, and Friday particularly. Since I only took a few dozen photos Friday I merged those into the Saturday sets, and this first gallery is a combination of Friday and early Saturday shots.
Cosplayers in this gallery include Kaylaina Cosplay, harleyharhar, Olivia Kitt Cosplay, animesuckx, tsukasasbestie, Jessica Leigh, Rangerpool cosplay, WaterDragondesign, Redfield design, shock_of_miss_louise, Ice Queen Cosplay Princess Parties, League of Larcy, rocinantecosplay, and many more.
We now use Smugmug to present cosplay photo galleries and will post all photos there, with a link to each gallery in its own gallery article. This will allow us to give you higher resolution images to download — still for free.
