Game Bytes: EA And FIFA Break Up, Animal Crossing Adds Updates And DLC
A chill is in the air and spooky month is well underway. We’ve had many interesting things happen in the world of video games this past week, including some presentations, some negotiations, and much, much more.
The final DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was finally revealed by Nintendo, with Sora from Kingdom Hearts taking the last spot in the roster. The 40-minute presentation was dedicated to Sora showing off his moves, stage, musical selections, and more. In the showcase, director Masahiro Sakurai revealed that Sora is the most ever requested Smash Bros. character. They even mentioned a character ballot from 2014 where Sora was the most requested character back then as well.
EA and FIFA have been in negotiations for the past two years about the future of the video game series based on the football league. The series has paid dividends for FIFA, which makes about $150 million per year from EA’s games due to its licensing agreement. According to a report from the New York Times, FIFA wants “more than double” what it currently gets from EA, and is asking for $1 billion for each World Cup cycle. Their previous agreement is ending in 2022, but as of Monday, Oct. 21, FIFA announced it would end EA Sports’ exclusivity and seek other game developers to work with.
Rockstar Games announced a new Grand Theft Auto remaster package that includes GTA III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas. The remaster will be called Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: The Definitive Edition, and it represents the first three 3D games in the series. The bundle will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and on PC later this year.
Animal Crossing fans rejoiced with the news they have been waiting for since the game was released. Version 2.0 was announced and it included everything and more of what fans have been wanting. Several longtime favorite characters will make their Animal Crossing: New Horizons debut; players will get even more customization and decoration items; and they can go to work planning new vacationers’ dream homes with the Happy Home Paradise paid DLC. Some of the favorites returning are groids, the cult-followed froggy chair, and cooking.
