Free Comic Book Day 2023 At Double Midnight Comics Part 1
This year for Free Comic Book Day I was at Double Midnight Comics in Manchester, NH, as usual. Not usual this year was the actual location of DMC.
Earlier this year, DMC finalized its plans to move into a new, larger space in the renovated mill building complex on Willow Street, known as The Factory on Willow. The facility is a true multi-use building, with apartments, Airbnb units, retail shops and even plans for a distillery on site. In addition, The Factory has a long high-ceilinged hallway-like event room in the basement level, which it has used for weddings, art shows and other functions.
Double Midnight co-owner Scott Proulx told me that having access to the large event space specifically for Free Comic Book Day was a big factor in helping the owners decide to make the move.
That event space was where all the cosplay guests, vendors, artists and community groups such as the 501st Legion of New England was located. They had me in a spot near the end, right next to our friends at Feature Presentation and their enormous set of the Byers’ living room from the first season of Stranger Things. While I can say I was a bit concerned about traffic flow in a room not directly connected to the store, I realized that clearly wasn’t a problem once I started counting how many photos I took. Between the two galleries of people in a cosplay costume you will get a total of more than 190 photos — more than any FCBD since 2018.
I wish I got more of a chance to check out the facility, and I will have to make a trip up there on a weekday to take a longer tour of the new store and the Factory on Willow as a whole.
Cosplayers in this first of two galleries include russell.mann.503, Zombie Leader, briezerker, Emily of Kids Con New England, rangerpoolcosplay, christopherlavallee, Riddley Nicks Piratanical Cosplays, cheriyoung1969, Adventures of Clever, bad_phoenix_wolf, Carley Winn Cosplay, Metallic Moon Cosplay, sophiacormier, bioweapon_lakota72, kenneth_pereira, starspangledcosplay, spidey_cap_62, and many more.
We use Smugmug to present cosplay photo galleries and post all photos there, with a link to each gallery in its own gallery article. This allows us to give you higher resolution images to download — still for free.
