Fan Expo Boston 2024 Saturday Gallery Part 2

One thing about the relocation of Fan Expo Boston to the Hynes Convention Center that could be either a positive or negative for photographers, depending on what kind of photography they were doing was how empty the third floor was. While the convention filled up the first two floors, it only used a couple of event spaces on the third floor, which meant there was very little foot traffic up there.

For a wandering hall photographer like David of dtjaaaam, despite the great lighting and interesting locations on the third floor, having so few people up there was a problem. In contrast, for a photographer like Eric of martinez.ephotography who did photoshoots of a handful of cosplayers, either pre-arranged or ones he encountered at the con that weekend, having a mostly empty hallway with huge windows and a really cool open winding staircase was exactly what he needed. There are good spaces with large windows at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, but the Hynes is a bit more interesting architecturally.

Additionally, there are much cooler locations within a couple of blocks of the Hynes, whereas the BCEC only has lots of new hotels or the big parking lot in the back. At the Hynes a photographer and cosplayer could walk to the Boston Public Library, the gorgeous Trinity Church in Copley Square or all the Christian Scientist locations — the church, the library or the reflecting pool. Getting outside the Hynes was one of the strategies of photographer Christopher Robin Wetherell that weekend.

Of course, I took photos at none of the locations, either inside the Hynes or out. I was comfortably ensconced in my studio space, and happy to be there.

Cosplayers in this second of four galleries from Saturday include setzzer52, apocalypse.unicorn, irisskies.cosplay, ktbaker7, kyledainescosplay, dark_eyes_cosplay, miserbilality, bcousplay, sideeyebrigade, cold_slither, wayofthewarlock, gm_phil, yumelily_, spktr_cosplay, kenneth_pereira, Jessica Leigh, torijeanbean, pand4m0nium, izzy_be_bizzy_, lorendacosplayer, ladygreymoonlight, cosplayinstilletos, itscindychea, kieraelizabethh, liekatron, captainzal, lydia_natal, officialdopeyy, gabungybungy, sorceress_triss, and many more.
