Granite State Comicon 2024 Saturday Part 3
Later Saturday at Granite State Comicon 2024 the cosplay contestants were no longer around my studio space since all the judging was done and the signup closed, However, the massive line for celebrity autographs that had blocked access to my area had thinned out, and many more friends of Nerd Caliber managed to find me and get photos. In addition, I was able to call out to more passing cosplayers for photos, since I could see them now. Two of those that I really fanboyed over were very late in the day, the Daria and Jane cosplayers from the MTV animated series Daria.
Being set up in the Cosplace, I was at the end of the line of cosplay guests which included, from right next to me down the line, bostonreinhardt, cardboardgremlin, Silhouette Cosplay, darklady.cosplay, and Avera Cosplay. Because everyone was so busy, I only got photos of cardboardgremlin in the last gallery, and Avera Cosplay in this one, in her famous sexy balrog cosplay.
This year was the first time Granitecon expanded outside of the Doubletree hotel and the event spaces connected to it. Diagonally across the intersection of Granite St. and Elm St. is the SNHU Arena, and the convention filled up the arena floor with additional vendors, artists and guests. Chief among those was a dedicated section called the Turtle Shell-A-Bration, which featured cast members from the 1990 live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. Also in that space were the many large groups that are typically in the armory, such as the 501st New England Garrison and the Ghostbusters of Maine and NH. New to the con scene was the Big Dumb Robot Con which had a dedicated space in the SNHU Arena. Started by amazing mechanization crafter stormtrooperguy, it brought together similar crafters from all over to show off their nerdy mechanized creations, including the droid DJ for the Granitecon after-party.
I skipped the after-party because it was held at an offsite bar which, while it was very close to the convention, the rain had never stopped all day, and I didn’t want to get my gear wet. That rain was one of the few downsides to the newly expanded convention space — the only way to get from the Doubletree side to the SNHU Arena side was about a 100-yard walk through the rain. That rain could have contributed to the crowding in the Exhibit Hall as fewer cosplayers went outside for photos and fewer people than the convention likely anticipated made the crossing to the SNHU Arena.
Cosplayers in the last Saturday gallery include hasen.3d, paige.bell, Avera Cosplay, starshower_cos, lena_lightning, tamikostudios, savage83, medusarose, Adventures of Clever, blubonbury, korekiyoville, minimalcosplay, stoneygovoni, nerdsneversleep_official, t_m_randolph, Koi Fish Asylum, glitch_vbk, mission.em.possible, bioweapon_lakota72, capclone, and many more.
