Nerdy Ads Filled Up the Super Bowl
There were plenty of ads about beer drinkers and puppy lovers during Super Bowl XLVIII last night, but the ads focused at the nerdy interests in all of us were on full display too. Some were promos for the upcoming Fox Network reboot of Carl Sagan’s classic show Cosmos, now featuring Neil deGrasse Tyson, and that made sense — Fox was broadcasting the Super Bowl. But others were just straight-up geek-fest commercials, and below I have compiled the ones I thought were the best. In the comments let me know which were your favorites.

Maybe I have a soft spot for this one in my heart because I am both old enough to remember all of these 1980s references, and nerdy enough to have once managed a Radio Shack store. But even if those two things don’t apply to you, this is a lot of geeky fun.

What do you get when you put The Mandarin, Sinestro and Loki together in one ad? A retrospective of how Brits make the best villains in Hollywood movies, and apparently how they are all Jaguar fans.

“Marky Mark and the Autobot Bunch”? Nope, “Transformers: Age of Extinction.” Whatever else the latest Transformers movie will be, it will have Optimus Prime riding the Dinobot Grimlock. Worth the price of admission right there.

The commercial for the new Captain America trailer kicked all kinds of ass. But rather than just linking to the commercial, I figured it would be best to serve up the whole trailer, in this case in the UK version which is a bit longer than the US one.

As with the above trailer, this is the trailer, not the commercial, for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Much of the action has already been seen, but the humor with Aunt May is a new and pleasant touch.
