It’s Confirmed, S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Blue Corpse Is A [SPOILER]

In an interview in TV Guide published today Jeffrey Bell, executive producer on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., dropped the bomb in advance of the in-show reveal scheduled for two weeks from last night about the nature of the blue-skinned corpse Agent (now Director) Phil Coulson found in a secret S.H.I.E.L.D. research facility called the Guest House.

If you don’t want to know what Bell said, please do not continue reading after the break. But if you are any kind of a fan of the show, the reveal will be less than surprising. It’s implications for the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe, however. are huge.

Bell said it without prevarication or coyness — that dead alien is (no drum roll, please) a Kree. In fact, his entire quote is: “Our people don’t know anything about the Kree or that there’s a planet full of them. What they do know is that the strange carvings created by Coulson after he was injected with the Kree serum are actually the map of a city, and they need to find that city before Hydra does. But where is it? Here or on another planet?”

OK, that isn’t any kind of shocking revelation, but it does pretty solidly cement the idea that the city S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra are looking for is Attilan, the city of the Inhumans. And makes it seem pretty likely that Skye and her dad, played by Kyle MacLachlin, are Inhumans. She was given the same healing serum made from the Kree-in-a-jar as Coulson but didn’t develop the same crazy symbol-drawing obsession as everyone else given that shot.

Last night’s episode of the show moved that theory very far along to all but fact. A woman from the same village in China Skye was found in was captured by Nazi-era Hydra bigwig Reinhardt in 1945, and we find out she is very long-lived (or immortal) as she gets recaptured by Hydra in 1989, and hasn’t aged a day. We also find out she is Skye’s mom, and her as-yet unnamed dad (he is called simply the Doctor so far in the show) vows vengeance against Reinhardt (now going by the name Whitehall) when he discovers what little remains of her body.

So now the big mystery is, who is Skye’s dad? He isn’t Black Bolt, as he speaks and things don’t explode. One theory I’ve read that I think could work is that he is Maximus, Black Bolt’s insane brother. But the Doctor’s rage issues (a state in which he can apparently rip many people apart with his bare hands) don’t fit.

Feel free to join in on the speculation. The next episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs on Dec. 2.
