Optimism Is Primed For ‘Transformers: Devastation’

After playing through High Moon Studios’ amazing games Transformers: War For Cybertron and the sequel Transformers: Fall of Cybertron I yearned for more good Transformers action. So imagine my excitement to hear one of my favorite video game studios, Platinum Games, was developing a new Transformers game, called Transformers Devastation. The new game is a hack-and-slash coming from the same studio that brought us phenomenal action games like the Bayonetta games as well as Metal Gear Rising Revengeance.

The Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons … no really that’s the story. Seen through the eyes of the Autobots, these robots in disguise use their unique abilities and combos to fight off the Decepticons and their evil plans in different situations. However, there’s more than meets the eyes with this game — such as the beautiful cell shaded designs of our favorite transformers in the classic G1 looks.

The player will be able to control five different Autobots such as Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Sideswipe, Wheeljack, and my personal favorite, Grimlock. Most of them have their original voice actors reprising their roles, including Megatron and Soundwave.

The action in this game looks awesome, mixing together vehicular combat, third person shooting, and mech fighting. This game definitely has Platinum Games’ touch all over it. The combat is impressive as always, mixing together both forms of the Transformers seamlessly.

Doing combos looks incredible. Seeing Optimus use his Ax, Gun, and Truck mode all in one combat is mind blowing. Also there seems to be a dodge mechanic very reminiscent of Bayonetta’s Witch Time, in which you dodge at just the right moment, to slow down time for a certain period of time, allowing you to dish out more combos.

Michael Bay wishes his Transformers action was this great, or even looked this good! I can not wait to get my hands on this game. It looks beautiful, the action has Platinum Games signature over the top fighting, and of course it’s Transformers. Coming out on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, and PC this Fall, be on the lookout for these robots In disguise.
