Burlesque Comic Con Vixens Show Rocked NYCC

I’ll be 100 percent honest. I had never been to a burlesque show until I got into cosplay and even then my first time attending one was in 2013 at AnimeNEXT. While it was an experience to finally go to one, I never really made it a mission to go to a show. If I wasn’t doing something already, I’d check it out. I’ve only been to couple afterwards but have left early at most due to boredom. I usually would rather be partying or hanging out with friends.

However when New York Comic Con was getting close, I was hearing more and more buzz about the RAWR Burlesque Comic Con Vixens 2 show, which was part of New York Super Week, which runs along with NYCC. I was interested, so I went on Saturday night. And I am so glad I did. Because that was easily the best cosplay burlesque shows I have ever seen.

This entertained me on many levels. From the beginning, the comedic style of host Bastard Keith made for an entertaining show. He was actually funny. He didn’t seem like he had to make us laugh, he could just do it on his own by being himself and that is the sign of a great comic. His little segments with geeky sex positions had to have been the funniest things I’ve heard all weekend. The show consisted of extremely talented burlesque performers from across the country, such as Dangrrr Doll who produced the show, Puss-N-Boots, Hazel Honeysuckle, Francis Menotti, Liberty Rose, Tiger Bay, Rosey La Rogue, Topher Bousquet, Lux La Croix and Dangrrr Doll’s partner as the core team of RAWR Burlesque, Stella Chuu.

The fact that it was a beautiful burlesque performance alone would do it for anyone, but these performances were absolutely spectacular. Each performer put on an amazing show. Each one different from the previous. It never felt boring or mundane. They managed to entertain on multiple levels. Each performer put on show that told a story along with their act, while showcasing their dancing skill, character-based actions, sex appeal (of course), as well as, in some cases, humor. It definitely felt like moving art.

Some of my personal favorites of the night were Puss-N-Boots’ Catwoman set, Stella Chuu‘s Breakfast Princess set, Liberty Rose‘s Rogue Solo set, Dangrrr Doll‘s Trigun set, and Lux La Croix‘s Rocket Raccoon set. Also Stella had me and a few friends screaming “Witness Me!” with her Warboy set. These performers are extremely talented and I felt I have seen the best of the best.

What I can appreciate the most is that each performance did not look rehearsed. Now to some that may seem like a weird thing to say but coming from a dancing background you are taught to showcase moves like you didn’t rehearse them over and over. You gotta make it look like it’s natural, like you can do these moves all day — that you’re feeling the moves instead of just counting steps or waiting for a certain part of the song. And I can really appreciate the time and effort these performers put into their craft. Especially Hazel Honeysuckle and her amazing Ent Lord Of The Rings set … which was done on stilts! Just … wow!

I really have to hand it to RAWR Burlesque. Their reputation definitely lived up to my expectations and surpassed them greatly. Dangrrr managed to put together a phenomenal show with some incredible talent. I always heard and knew that they were good, but seeing them actually perform live is a whole other thing. I actually look forward to and are hoping that there will be a Comic Con Vixens 3 at NYCC next year. It is an amazing show that deserves a follow up. So if you are interested in seeing these amazing performers be sure to check them out on social media, find a show they are performing at, and go check them out. You will not regret it.
