The Most Obscure, Odd, Interesting Cosplay of 2015
This past year I took plenty of pictures of excellent costumes and cosplayers, but I always get a thrill out the odd ones. The creative mashups, the truly obscure, the clearly ironic genderbending, the just plain strange (I’m looking at you X, and your “Weapons Check Guy”).
Not surprisingly, DragonCon is well represented here, but the local mini version, Fall Super MegaFest, also produced some outstandingly creative costumes, as always. As did New York Comic Con, naturally. By the way, that Featured Image above is Ranger Rhino from the website RangerUp.com, a character in its web cartoon — found only on the site that sells clothing of interest to Army vets — The Damn Few. I ran into him Friday night at DragonCon and of course didn’t recognize the character — but my son, who had just three weeks before graduated from Ranger School at Fort Benning, Ga., and was visiting me while I was in the state for DragonCon, sure did. The coincidence that this cosplay was the first thing we saw when getting on to the Atrium floor of the Marriott, is almost unbelievable.
