A Few Words with Joe Cornish: Writer & Director of ATTACK OF THE BLOCK

At the New York Comic Con 2011, we had a few words with director Joe Cornish concerning his movie, Attack The Block. Attack The Block is a British sci-fi action movie about aliens attacking the poor neighborhoods and its citizens retaliating. Joe Cornish wrote and directed this movie. The DVD and Blu Ray comes out October 25.

Included in this interview is the trailer to Attack The Block. In the age of mash-ups and mixing genres, Attack The Block is the first that blends street life with science fiction. I was a little worried before seeing this movie of whether a concept like that would work, but with Joe Cornish’s smart writing and clever directing, this fits easily with another movie I love that Cornish has worked on, that is also a blend of genres, Shaun of The Dead. Somehow Cornish was able to redeem his main characters, from foolish street thugs to heroic alien-busters. I hated them at first but they grew on me and cared enough for me to wonder if they will escape from the alien horde that is hunting them down.

If you love Shaun of The Dead, I can’t see how you can dislike Attack The Block. It’s definitely worth your dollar and your time.
