Anime Boston 2024 Saturday Gallery Part 2 By FirstPerson Shooter
As our busy Saturday continued at Anime Boston 2024, we heard the news that the convention had shut down sales of walk-in tickets for what I believe is the first time in the convention’s history. The general consensus (unconfirmed, to be clear) was that the Fire Marshall had become concerned about the overcrowding, particularly in the Artists Alley. At one point on Friday, in the back corner near where the wonderful artist Amanda Dufresne had her table, a cosplayer told me he was stuck in a crowd that never moved for a reported 20 minutes. Props to AB security for eventually clearing that up, but it still seems to have been very concerning to the safety monitors in the Fire Marshall’s office.
When I showed up Saturday morning I decided to give the catering service at the John B. Hynes Convention Center a chance to redeem themselves and bought what was labeled as a bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel sandwich. First problem was it was sausage, not bacon. No big, still a good choice, just not what was advertised. However, just like the cheeseburger the day before, despite everything being individually good, the overall experience was bland. Keep trying, Hynes kitchen — almost there.
In this gallery is the first cosplayer I saw from the anime The Apothecary Diaries. Since that show had as much critical acclaim as Freiren: Beyond Journey’s End (and deserved every bit of it) I anticipated seeing about as many Maomao cosplayers as Frieren cosplayers. So I was surprised when it was late morning on the second day of the convention before I saw my first one.
For sheer creative power, checkout the custom branding design nxght.lxght did for her concept of a Mountain Dew Baja Blast Hatsune Miku. Just amazing.
