Berserk Cosplay Retrospective Gallery On Manga Author’s Death

Upon hearing the sad news of the death of Berserk mangaka, Kentaro Miura, our team member Chocobobutt wrote up the piece below. The gallery information will be after that.

Japanese manga author Kentaro Miura, creator of the popular dark fantasy creation Berserk died at 54 years old. For years fans of anime and dark fantasy have celebrated the creation of Berserk for its gore and violence, but that is not all the series has brought to its fans. At its core Berserk has been a guiding light for many fans of the series for its inspirational story of moving on no matter how many demons are thrown at you. It is a story of courage and one so many of its fans have related to and been inspired by. The series as a whole has inspired some of our most beloved game and anime series. Berserk has influenced a wide variety of media, making the loner with a big sword trope extremely popular. It is seen over and over again in mangas/animes like Bleach, Naruto, Ruroni Kenshin, Fairy Tail, Inuyasha, Shaman King, and many more.

Games from the Dark Souls series were also heavily inspired by Berserk, with the primary example being Knight Artorias. In creator Miura’s own struggles he created characters and visuals that changed the genre of dark fantasy forever. Miura had been taking hiatuses more recently on the series due to his health concerns.

Perhaps the last chapters of Berserk will be his way of showing he knew his own time was coming as the last chapters brought a sense of peace to the story. We will never know the full ending to the epic that Miura put his heart and soul into creating, but we will always remember the impact of the journey that he took us on. Rest in peace Kentaro Miura, July 11, 1966 to May 6, 2021.

The gallery shows how rare it is for people to cosplay Guts, the main character for the manga and animes. There are barely more than a dozen images here, taken over more than a decade. And I know I have taken a photo of at least one person cosplaying Griffith, but I can’t seem to find that shot. Cosplayers in this gallery include vulpirecosplay, and more.

We now use Smugmug to present cosplay photo galleries and will post all photos there, with a link to each gallery in its own gallery article. This will allow us to give you higher resolution images to download — still for free.
