Black History Month Cosplay Feature: Brandon the Shapeshifter

It is Black History Month and there are a handful of wonderful ways various people and organizations are highlighting black cosplayers. One of the best is the hashtag campaign #28DaysofBlackCosplay. I suggest you follow it on whichever social media platform you like best. Chances are it’s trending on there.

In addition to other coverage throughout the month, we are going to be highlighting some New England-based black cosplayers. We want to both represent the area in which Nerd Caliber is headquartered, and call attention to some amazing cosplayers you might have missed.

First up is the outstanding Brandon the Shapeshifter. Brandon is an amazing design talent, and always puts his unique stamp on any character he cosplays, pulling from comics, movies, cartoons and even mythology. He moves easily between same-gender cosplay to crossplay to genderbending and back.

One of the hallmarks of Brandon is that while he often cosplays a character multiple times, the costume is almost never exactly the same. As you can see from the various photos of Brandon as Maleficent, the cloak is different, the headpiece is different or the contacts are different. And sometimes it is completely different, like his dapper gentleman Maleficent from Anime Boston.

High-res images for sale!
If you are pictured in any of our galleries and want the high resolution download for yourself, we can make it available via a private, password-protected link, for $8 per image. Just send an email to editor AT nerdcaliber.com.

We are also now selling high resolution images of some of the photos taken of cosplayers that have agreed to let us do so. To see the 50 or so images we have available to download for a mere $8 each, go to our Anime Boston 2016 sales gallery and our Spring Super Megafest 2016 sales gallery.

  1. This is awesome!
We love Brandon in Salem and are SO happy that he is getting the recognition he deserves! He is a part of the fabric of a city that PRIDES itself on being friendly to cosplay year round and his talent and dedication always show through…which considering we see half a million people here in October alone.. That is NO SMALL FEAT!
