Black Lives Matter: Black Panther Universe Cosplay Retrospective
Nerd Caliber was founded, in part, on the idea that there wasn’t enough diversity in the coverage of conventions and cosplay at the time. Our mission has always been to be inclusive in our coverage, showcasing cosplayers of every size, shape, age, gender and color. So it should come as no surprise that the we support the protests against police violence toward marginalized communities in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd.
While we are doing things behind the scenes to support the protests and the communities, we’ve always tried to place people of color in front of our cameras. Which means we can present retrospective galleries of cosplays of POC characters, featuring black cosplayers. First up are characters from the Black Panther universe. T’Challa is in here the most, but all sorts of characters from both the comic and the movie are represented.
You may notice that Storm, T’Challa’s one-time wife, is in here in a couple of sets. She will get her own gallery coming up, and I decided to include the photos of the two of them together in this gallery, not hers.
Cosplayers in this gallery include Chocolate Ninja Cosplay, GiveWave Studios, Everyone’s Hero Cosplay, vixenjay_, phillyblackpanther, urbanenigma, Scorpking Costuming, uptownbill007, toojadedcosplay, Everybody Loves Tony Ray, Papa Bear, statuesque_yoki, oniuno, iam.ororo, miles_kicks, and many more.
We now use Smugmug to present cosplay photo galleries and will post all photos there, with a link to each gallery in its own gallery article. This will allow us to give you higher resolution images to download — still for free.
