Black Lives Matter: John Stewart and Static Retrospective Gallery

As some municipal and state authorities and some police departments begin to discuss — and in some cases, even make — changes based on the Black Lives Matter protests, the intensity of the movement has abated a little. But we will continue to do what we can to support the movement, both behind the scenes and highlighting black cosplayers portraying black characters.

Our first gallery of DC characters in this series is of the Green Lantern John Stewart and Static, the character co-created by Dwayne McDuffie in the DC imprint Milestone Comics.  After Milestone Comics closed, Static was brought into the main DC universe, joining the Teen Titans. John Stewart was another one of Dennis O’Neil’s 1970’s attempts at addressing the lack of diversity in comics in general and DC Comics particularly. Created in 1972 in the socially important Green Lantern Green Arrow comic O’Neil wrote and Neal Adams drew, John Stewart became Earth’s primary Green Lantern after Hal Jordan quit for a while.

Cosplayers in this gallery include Everybody Loves Tony Ray, Colen P Cosplay, Everyone’s Hero Cosplay, and more.

We now use Smugmug to present cosplay photo galleries and will post all photos there, with a link to each gallery in its own gallery article. This will allow us to give you higher resolution images to download — still for free.
