‘Cabin In The Woods’ Maker May Write Daredevil on Netflix
Drew Goddard, the director and co-writer of the sleeper hit movie “Cabin In The Woods” is in talks to be the writer of the new Netflix series based on Daredevil, according to a report on the site The Wrap.
The Wrap says in its headline that the “Series to be Written” by Goddard. But in the article it quotes an unnamed insider familiar with the situation and states that Goddard is in talks to be the writer, not that any deal is done. It also points out Goddard’s representative had no comment and it had not yet heard back from Netflix or Disney. So much for accuracy in headline writing.
However, journalistic sloppiness aside, if the rumor does turn out to be true, Goddard would be a good fit. He is a TV veteran, having served as a writer and a producer on JJ Abrams shows “Lost” and “Alias.” But it is his connection to Marvel Cinematic creative mastermind Joss Whedon that makes him seem like the right person for the job.
Whedon was the other writer on “Cabin In The Woods,” and Goddard was a writer on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel.”
Let’s hope this turns out to be true. If so, it bodes well for the quality of the story in at least one quarter of the Netflix excursion into the Marvel universe (see Breaking: Marvel to Make 4 New Series on Netflix, Leading up to ‘Defenders’ Mini-series.)
