ColossalCon 2016 Equals Cosplay Fun In The Sun

ColossalCon is the one con I look forward to more than any other con of the year. For me it is up there with DragonCon and New York Comic Con. I’ve been trying to go to this convention since I first heard about it in 2014 from the many cosplay music videos it spawned. And after finally getting the chance to go last year it quickly became my favorite and I feel that it is a must-attend con for me. It is always a lot of fun to enjoy some summer fun before the summer technically even begins.

ColossalCon has the fortune of being held at a waterpark that is attached to the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, Ohio. So the cosplays you will see are mainly summer swimsuits, and the creativity of the cosplayers always is a surprise. The outdoor waterpark is the epicenter for most cosplayers at ColossalCon, even more so than the actual con in the convention center part of the resort. The pool is normally where many cosplayers go for pictures and despite this it never felt crowded. Many would think the area would be full of cosplayers and photographers taking pictures. But it’s the opposite. There are many people there just swimming, and the cosplayers and photographers are mainly on the shallow side of the pool taking up little to no space.

The indoor water park is also amazing as it has a big wave pool where you will find some cosplayers taking photos or just enjoying the inner tubes. The park is filled with fun water slides, including my favorite, the Safari Plunge.

The actual con itself is pretty decent. Many attend the con just for the waterpark alone but the actual con is not to be overlooked. I was able to check out the Dealers Room and noticed it was actually quite impressive. The con area itself is not huge, but the amount of events, panels, and the Dealer’s Room is worth checking out.

Overall I think this con is one of my favorites among all I have attended. I feel that ColossalCon  is the best way to kick off the summer for sure for cosplayers. I mean it’s a waterpark and a convention all in one. My only complaint is that the Kalahari sadly opens up the room blocks for next year during the con which cuts into a lot of time wasted for people to enjoy the cons due to having to stand in lines to make sure you don’t miss out on a room for the next year. It’d be better if they waited until after the con, but hopefully they’ll learn from this as many have issued complaints to both the con and hotel. But I digress, because that is really my only complaint.

If you are in the Ohio area or even are able to travel to it, I highly recommend you attend this con, and enjoy probably the best way for a cosplayer to kick off the summer.
