ColossalCon East 2024 Fighting Game Swimsuit Group Shoot
On Friday at Colossalcon East 2024, I hosted a meetup I dubbed the Fighting Game Swimsuit Shoot at the Kalahari’s waterpark. This was my sixth time hosting such a meetup at the convention, as I’ve done so every year since the second year of CCE’s existence.
Cosplayers from a variety of games attended the meetup this year. Characters from Street Fighter, Tekken, The King of Fighters, Darkstalkers, and Guilty Gear all joined the battle. Although I call this a “swimsuit shoot” in the title, I don’t make swimwear mandatory for the meetup. Cosplay of characters from fighting games is a somewhat rare treat, and I wouldn’t want to leave anyone out that was only cosplaying a default outfit of a character at the convention.
I started off taking a couple of photos of the full group at the indoor waterpark, and then moved outside for the remainder of the meetup/photoshoot. The sun was playing a bit of hide-and-seek behind the clouds during the meetup, which is quite noticeable in the photo gallery. In retrospect, it may have been a better idea to hold the entirety of the meetup inside, in order to have more even lighting throughout the shoot. That said, I did enjoy going outside for a bit, if for no other reason than to escape the brutal humidity inside the indoor waterpark. I’ve heard of photographers occasionally having issues with their cameras due to the humidity, so heading outside for a bit probably was a good idea for both my camera body, and my actual body.
I believe this may have been the biggest turnout I’ve had for this meetup yet, with around 20 or so cosplayers in attendance. Thank you to all those that came out this year! If you’re a cosplayer and a fighting game fan, consider joining the meetup at next year’s convention!
