Comic Review: Robyn Hood #5

Review: Robyn Hood #5 (Zenescope)
By: Erin DeBorba

In Issue 4 of Robyn Hood, we left Robyn as she sat on the floor of a jail cell, just having finished an angering conversation with King John. She’d almost won the tournament, then lost it to his Champion, and now awaits her execution in the morning.

In issue 5, Robyn Hood opens up with the scene of what is supposed to be Robyn’s execution, but quickly turns into a free for-all once she escapes and begins the revolution. Soldiers and friends are killed in the battle, and Robyn Hood finally takes King John’s life.

Once the battle is done, and the people are getting back what is rightfully theirs, Will Scarlet takes Robyn to see a friend of his; a friend who can help her get home. The woman’s name is Marian, and she gives Robyn a crystal necklace, said to have been broken. Once she had fixed it, it glowed a brilliant red, then a portal appeared, much like the one Robyn came to Myst in.

Robyn and the Merry Men, or what is left of them, take the crystal necklace down to the lakes edge, where Robyn first came to Myst. Out of nowhere, a portal appears and Robyn is taken back home.

Fast forward a month, and Robyn is ready to have her revenge on Cal King. After killing two of his friends, she drags their bodies to Cal’s home, where she plasters them to his living room wall and waits for him to come home. When Cal’s father comes home instead, a brawl ensues, ending in the death of Mr. King.

Cal returns home, to the sight of his friends and father dead, and is happy. He then realizes who stands in front of him, and they fight as well. Once Robyn is able to have her revenge, she leaves Cal in his burning house, harasses the two cops that once saw her get raped and attacked by Cal, and kills off the deputy Zimmerman.

Returning to an old apartment, she’s done. It’s all over. But as one last hurrah, Robyn sets out as “Robyn Hood” to give people what they deserve. She robs a bank, and throws the cash everywhere so people can be free. We then see as she leaves town.

Unbeknownst to her, Gisbourne, the King’s Champion, and the king’s son, have made it to Earth somehow, and have come across Cal’s burning home. Pulling the man out of the wreckage and flames, they decide to take him in and propose something about a girl they both know.

The story has captivated hundreds, and the art work is stunning, as usual. Everything about Robyn Hood keeps the readers wanting more, and keeps fans returning to the series.

Being the end of the 5 part series, Robyn Hood Issue 5 was a great conclusion to the story, but makes readers eagerly waiting for what’s to come! Previewed after the issue is Robyn Hood Vs. Red Riding Hood. Look out for my review on that, coming soon as well!
