Critical Role Photo Shoot Gallery by The Portrait Dude!
(Ed Note: Spoilers ahead for the 11/14 /2019 episode of Critical Role)
Dustin met Ginny at Gen Con and at the Critical Role D&D Beyond Election party. They started chatting about Dragon Con and he had cosplayed as The Gentleman last year at Gen Con, and Ginny (aka Ginny Di) is well known in the community for her Jester cosplay. Dustin (aka FlashFletch Cosplay) proposed a Jester/Gentleman photo shoot since the party found out back in Episode 33 that a man bearing a striking resemblance to The Gentleman could be Jester’s father. Ginny mentioned having a wonderful Marion (Jester’s mom), her friend Laura of JessoLaurus Rex, and the idea of a “Family Photo” kind of just evolved from there. Everyone was so happy that it worked out, because they got to meet and hang out together. Dustin said that Ginny, Laura and Jesse (the other half of JessoLaurus Rex) made this past Dragon Con one of his favorite Dragon Cons he has ever been to, and this past Dragon Con was his 19th.
They contacted Wes (aka The Portrait Dude) to see if he would be interested in being the photographer and being a huge Critical Role fan he agreed and they made plans to meet in the park near DragonCon. Everyone met up at the con, did the shoot (had a blast)and the community loved the pictures since it was a very popular fan theory at the time. Ginny Di and the gang even used one of the pictures to give a nod to the theory in her recent music video “Jester’s Mom” which was a parody music video of “Stacy’s Mom” by Fountains of Wayne where Fjord (played by Jesse) is singing about Jester’s mom (a running gag in the campaign).
In typical D&D fashion the party in game becomes involved in numerous quests and story lines and don’t make their way back to The Gentleman until Episode 85 (which aired on 11/14, more than a full year later). About halfway through the episode The Gentleman has a private conversation with Jester and reveals that he is her father and gives the backstory of where he has been and why he didn’t return.
