‘Dark Souls III’ Opening Cinematic Is, Well, Dark – And Gorgeous
Yesterday the folks at Bandai Namco showed us how players of the upcoming game Dark Souls III will die — I mean, showed us some of the big baddies, in the game’s opening cinematic.
Due to be released on April 12, Dark Souls III is the latest in the franchise known for being some of the toughest games to beat (or just throwbacks to when games were challenging and players weren’t wimps, depending on which Reddit post you read). Lending credence to the idea that at least this version of the franchise will be very tough is the quote from game designer Hidetaka Miyazaki from last summer’s E3 conference. “The level design, as well as the enemy placements, everything has been arranged to kill you,” he was quoted as saying in a VG247.com article. OK, tough then.
The cinematic introduces you to the Kingdom of Lothric and specifically to three bosses — Aldrich, a sludge thing called the Saint of the Deep; Farron’s Undead Legion with their pointy, four-corner helmets; and Yhorm the Giant. Each looks to be formidable in different ways, but Yhorm really hits the wet-your-pants level of tough and scary.
