Doctor Strange Gallery On Rumors He Will Be In The Next Spider-Man Movie

Earlier this month, both The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline reported independently based on their unnamed insider sources that Benedict Cumberbatch would reprise his role as Doctor Strange in the next Tom Holland Spider-Man movie. Both articles stated that the character would step into the mentor role left behind by Tony Stark’s death.

Neither Marvel nor Disney confirmed the reporting, according to the articles. However, it makes a lot of sense from the standpoint of building the overarching story thread that weaves through at least Phase 4 of the MCU movies — that being the growing awareness of the multiverse, based on what we know already about WandaVision and Cumberbatch’s own next film as Strange, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.

When I pulled together the photos for this retrospective gallery, I was surprised to see it was just under 100 images. In part that is because the character has always been a niche fan favorite, but also in larger part because Dr. Strange #180 (yes, his title was abbreviated on the covers back in the late 1960s — for the most part. Even Marvel wasn’t consistent with that until the early 1970s.) was my very first comic book. I found it just inside the fence on the south side of our rural farm, undoubtedly tossed there by someone who was playing a prank on a friend. My budding science fiction nerd brain was instantly drawn in by Gene Colan’s depiction of Eternity as an almost complete silhouette through which you can see outer space.
