Fan Expo Boston 2024 Friday Gallery Part 1
Because of the interior construction work being done at its usual home, the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, this year Fan Expo Boston relocated to the John B. Hynes Convention Center. The difference in size between the two facilities meant that Fan Expo Boston filled up almost the entire Hynes Center, as opposed to just roughly 3/4 of the show floor only of the BCEC. There are both positives and negatives about the new (and likely very temporary) location versus the usual one, and over the course of the many galleries we will have from the three days of the convention, I’ll cover as many as I can.
The first difference, and overall a slightly negative one, is the location of our studio space. At the BCEC, because everything is basically in one giant room, the row of cosplay guests, which is where we were once again located, is more open and accessible to crowds walking around. In contrast, at the Hynes the cosplay guests were located on the second floor in the front connector between Halls C and D — in this case between the celebrity autograph space and Artists Alley. While it seemed to me that I saw less foot traffic than I did in 2023, the number of galleries I will have from 2024 tells a different story — the count will be almost the same as last year. And that is even with the big gaps when I was away from the studio space to shoot the five cosplay Red Carpet events spread out over the weekend.
On a positive note, because the Hynes is a smaller building than the BCEC, getting anywhere I needed to go was easier and faster than at the BCEC. And that was a great relief to my old knees.
