Fan Expo Boston 2024 Friday Gallery Part 3
The first Red Carpet cosplay showcase of the weekend at Fan Expo Boston 2024 was at 6 p.m. on Friday. Since all three other Nerd Caliber team members, including the photographers that were going to shoot the showcases, couldn’t make it because of last-minute problems, I had to shut down the studio space and head downstairs to shoot the Red Carpet myself. To be clear, no shade on the other team members — each of them had unrelated problems arise, each of which was very much in the “whoa, take care of that and don’t worry about the con” category.
Alas, I forgot to set a timer for the Friday Red Carpet, so when I got the “where art thou?” text message I panicked, and just grabbed the gear at hand I needed and rushed down to the first-floor hallway. Which meant I forgot the flash I had brought with me that was to be used just for Red Carpet shoots and brought the one I had been using all day for the studio. And yes, the battery pack died, and it was a flash with a rechargeable pack and couldn’t take regular AA batteries. Later I was told I only missed about a dozen cosplayers after photographing nearly 80, but I still felt really bad about it. After that gaffe I made sure to set alarms, have spare batteries and use just one dedicated flash for the next three Red Carpet events over the weekend.
On the negative side of the relocation from the BCEC to the Hynes Convention Center was the lack of in-con food options. During Anime Boston, the Hynes had multiple food vendor locations on each floor. While nobody would call the food great, it was at least conveniently available. I only saw one location at Fan Expo Boston, on the second floor outside the entrance to the main theater.
This last of three Friday galleries includes cosplayers ellsekonecko, peachyhow, queeng33ky, kingwebhead, dansvirsky, shin_the_raven, flinger2020, mz_ampersand, songsnstitched, etherealamberr, devineee.0703, peachy_axolotl, tarokujocosplay, blazeoakley21, abbyydrawss, sunbunnycosplay, generalbenkenobi, and many more.
