Fan Expo Philadelphia 2022 Cosplay Gallery Part 1

The first ever Fan Expo Philadelphia was held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on April 8-10, 2022.

In 2021, Fan Expo HQ acquired six events from Wizard World, which included the Philadelphia show. With these acquisitions, Fan Expo HQ now hosts seventeen events across North America.

As we are still amidst a global pandemic, I believe it is important to document the health and safety precautions that are taken at conventions, and I plan to do so for any event that I cover during the course of the year, in an impartial manner.

Fan Expo Philadelphia did not require its attendees to show proof of vaccination, or wear masks on the show floor during the event. I should also point out that the 7-day average of new coronavirus cases in the United States was at around 30,000 per day at the time of the event. This can be considered a fairly low number in the grand scheme of the pandemic. With that out of the way, let’s get to the fun stuff.

Fan Expo is a multi-genre convention that features entertainment focusing on a variety of aspects of pop culture including comics, cinema, anime, gaming, and more.

Celebrity appearances have historically been a big draw for Fan Expo events, and this was certainly the case at their Philadelphia show. William Shatner, David Tennant, Kevin Smith, Carl Weathers, Ming-Na Wen, Jonathan Frakes, and Gates McFadden were just a few of the stars of television and cinema in attendance in Philadelphia for fans to get autographs from and photo ops with.

Numerous voice actors were also present at the event including David Matranga, Justin Briner, Monica Rial, Trina Nishimura, Christopher Sabat, Sean Schemmel, Steve Blum, and many more. Many of the celebrities and voice actors in attendance held Q&A panels during the event, giving fans an opportunity to interact with them.

There was a huge number of vendors and artists selling a wide variety of wares in the exhibit hall. Whether you’re a fan of movies, comics, anime, horror, video games, or all of the above, there was almost certainly something in the exhibit hall that would catch your fancy.

Although I was not able to obtain any specific attendance figures from Fan Expo, attendance at the show seemed to be higher than it was during the final few years of Wizard World Philadelphia. Most fans that I spoke to seemed to agree that overall, the show was a cut above Wizard World, which had become stagnant in recent years. Here’s hoping that Fan Expo has a long, successful run in the City of Brotherly Love.

Fan Expo will return to Philadelphia on June 2-4, 2023.
