First Saturday RICC 2017 Cosplay Gallery by FirstPerson Shooter!
As one of the fastest growing conventions to launch in the past few years, Rhode Island Comic Con continues to draw huge celebrity names, sell-out crowds … and organizational problems.
On the one hand, charity groups like Zombie Leader and the 501st New England Garrison reported record donations this year. On the other, the Rhode Island Convention Center and local authorities implemented a crowd management traffic flow system that forced paying attendees back out into the sub-freezing cold to walk back to the single entry point allowed. And not just if anyone left the convention, but if they left the Dunkin Donuts Arena, to go to the convention center where the main Dealer’s Room was and where all the panels were, or the Omni Hotel where most of the gaming activity was located.
That traffic flow plan, and placing the queue lines for photo opps outside in heated tents, had the desired effect of making the three connected buildings noticeably less crowded than in the previous two years. And that made for a more enjoyable con experience for most people I talked to. But plenty of people also complained about having to go outside to go from North to South in a convention in which all three building were connected by skywalks. That was compounded by the fact that conflicting and inaccurate information about entry and exit points was given out by both con staff and convention center staff and security alike.
Despite the continued issues RICC needs to correct, this year I shot just as many photos of cosplayers as last year. Among the cosplayers in this first of five galleries from Saturday are West Street Studios, Multitudes Cosplay, Not Quite Done Yet Cosplay, FTM Cosplay and Props, Cares O-Lot Cosplay, Maverick Dad Cosplay, bootsandnoodles, armariaseole, Turnfolio Cosplay, Brandon the Shapeshifter, 21lillian21, Raymond Ramos Cosplay, Roxas Paige, uptownbill007, evildirtydave, nothingisimpawsible, and many more.
