FirstPerson Shooter’s Fave Odd & Obscure Cosplays of 2018!

One of the joys of going to conventions is seeing people cosplaying characters that are so surprising it’s like hearing a great joke told by an excellent comedian. It’s shocking, but in a wonderful, joyful way. At the end of each year I collect my favorite odd, obscure or just plain strange into a retrospective gallery, and I still get a similar thrill, being reminded of these treats.

I say reminded, because there’s no way I can remember them all (or any, for that matter) so I look back through all the galleries I’ve posted in the previous year. So each time I find one of the cosplays I squeed over, it’s like discovering it all over again.

Kudos to the cosplayers I don’t know, for the random thrills at various cons — the awesome Squadron Supreme, the absolutely spot on Baby Driver, the perfect crossplay of the comic book version of Hydra agent Bob, and the daring Rabbit from the anime Juuni Taisen, all from NYCC. From Arisia we have the demon club host Lorne from Angel, and the glorious leader himself, Kim Jong Un. And ConnectiCon brought me the inventor of the running craze version of Forrest Gump.

Cosplayers in this gallery include Cosplay Dad as Matthew Patel from Scott Pilgrim versus The WorldWest Street Studios as Judge Fear from the Judge Dredd comics and later on as Chief Brody from JawsMini Mal Cosplay as Vizzini from The Princess Bride (you see lots of Dread Pirate Roberts cosplay, but this is the first Vizzini I’ve ever seen); Miss Kits Cosplay‘s husband as the original Dominos Pizza mascot the Noid; kyutoryu as Ryo Kurokiba from Food Wars! The Eiferer’s Armory nailing it as high-waist-pants Kylo Ren from Star Wars: The Last JediCowbutt Crunchies Cosplay as characters of their own designs representing sewing tools; Multitudes CosplayNot Quite Done Yet Cosplay and friend as the Warner Brothers (and sister) from AnimaniacsGallant-Z as Batman villain Music Meister; and AlliZ Cosplay as the only character from Black Clover I recall seeing all year (and the only one I would want to photograph — just say no to yelling), the often drunk and often half-clothed Vanessa Enoteca.
