FirstPerson Shooter’s Fave Odd & Obscure Cosplays of 2019

I could simply link to the Dragon Con galleries by Gregg of Wonderllama Photography or Blake of Bentpic5 and call it a day when it comes to highlighting the Odd, Obscure and Mashup cosplays of 2019. But that would mean I would miss all of the other amazingly weird cosplay ideas we got a chance to photograph in the past year.

And this time I mean “we” not “me.” Because it is so much easier using the new SmugMug galleries to look through the images, this year I am including galleries from Wonderllama and Bentpic5, as well as Bryan of B. Marchulaitis Photography, Adam of gamesNgirls, Jake of Zephyrlynk Productions and Dave of evildirtydave.

So what was my favorite odd, obscure or mashup cosplay that I photographed? Well, that’s impossible to say, but I do recall geeking out really hard when Cosplay Dad and Miss Kits Cosplay showed up to GraniteCon as characters from the awful movie Howard the Duck — complete with a puppet version of Howard. The cosplayer doing Wayne from Letterkenny at PortConMaine also got me cheering, and that god Khonsu version of Moon Knight from Super Megafest was astounding.

Then there was my friend Eric, who I hadn’t seen in years, showing up to ConnectiCon as a spot-on Max Headroom, with his own backdrop. But perhaps it geeked out hardest over the guy cosplaying as B.J. Blazkowicz from Wolfenstein: The New Order — I game I had just finished playing before Empire State Comic Con.

Since I am including the work of other photographers in this year’s list, which images from them got me most excited? While there were many, I’ll just point out our Featured Photo above — Jake of Zephyrlynk managed to shoot a group of My Hero Academia cosplayers as Dunkin Donuts workers — at and in an actual Dunkin Donuts in downtown Hartford during ConnectiCon.

We now use Smugmug to present cosplay photo galleries and will post all photos there, with a link to each gallery in its own gallery article. This will allow us to give you higher resolution images to download — still for free.
