Friday Gallery From The First AnimeNYC by Adam Etheridge
Anime NYC, a creation of LeftField Media, held its inaugural show at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City on Nov. 17-19. There was no lack of competition, with at least four other comic and anime related events being held in the NY/NJ/PA area on the same weekend. Despite this, Anime NYC came out of the gate strong, selling out both Saturday and weekend passes prior to the convention, bringing in more than 20,000 attendees its first year.
The convention had plenty to entertain fans, with dozens of panels with a wide variety of topics, a Japanese-styled arcade area courtesy of Tokyo Attack!, guests which included several voice actors from the popular video game Overwatch, musical performances, and much more.
Anime NYC only occupied a fraction of the Javits Center, which meant there was plenty of space outside of the panel rooms and expo hall for fans to congregate, relax, and take part in photo shoots. This also means that the convention has plenty of room to grow in the years to come. In case there was any doubt, the convention will indeed return next year, as the organizers have already announced dates for their 2018 show.
Below is the cosplay gallery from Friday of the first AnimeNYC.
