Game Bytes: Nintendo Direct Teases Bayonetta 3 And Splatoon 3

September is here, Fall has officially begun and despite the colder weather coming the video game news is getting hot. This week we had a special Nintendo Direct event for its winter lineup of games.

Nintendo decided to give us a last minute Direct and they did not let us down. There was a mix of new games that were announced as well as the internet-breaking cast announcement for the upcoming Super Mario movie. Bayonetta 3 was finally shown at this Direct and is coming in 2022, with original creator Hideki Kamiya acting as executive producer. Bayonetta herself was shown in the trailer sporting a slightly different look this time, with longer hair on her head and new dance moves. A “massive expansion” for the original game on Nintendo Switch, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, was announced and seems to be taking a darker turn. The expansion is scheduled as paid DLC in Summer 2022.

A surprise drop to some that leaked right before the Direct was the new Kirby game, Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Taking place in a post-apocalyptic setting, the game stays true to its cute Kirby roots and will be coming to Switch in Spring 2022. Animal Crossing fans can finally rejoice since. A new Nintendo Switch Online plan is coming, and subscribing will provide you with access to a variety of Nintendo 64 games such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Star Fox 64 as well as Sega Genesis games. The new membership plan will be added in late October, and you can change over from your existing plan without having to cancel. Four classic Castlevania games were stealth dropped to Nintendo Switch as the Castlevania Advance Collection. Aria of Sorrow, Harmony of Dissonance, and Circle of the Moon are all included, as is the bonus game Dracula X. The previously announced Splatoon 3 made an appearance with a look at multiplayer. Splatoon 3 will feature “Return of the Mammalians,” for its story mode, and the game takes place in the chaotic Splatsville. The game is planned for a release in 2022.
