Game Bites: Steam Deck And Skyward Sword HD Rule The week
Happy Monday Nerd Caliber fans and welcome to another Game Bites where we tell you the video gaming news of the past week so you don’t have to spend hours searching the internet. We had a quiet week with most people talking about the highly anticipated Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD but we did get some exciting confirmations of upcoming games and a new console.
This December, Valve will be releasing their very own handheld PC they’re calling the Steam Deck, the first big competitor to Nintendo’s Switch. The Steam Deck will be available with 64GB, 256GB, or 512GB of onboard storage, which can be added onto with microSD cards. It will have a 7” 1280 x 800px LCD touchscreen, analog sticks, buttons (including ones on the grips), and triggers you’d want on a controller, but it also has two track pads. There will be a dock sold separately, much like the Nintendo Switch. Valve says you can use your everyday PC applications on this mini-computer. The Steam Deck is currently up for preorders and has three different price points to choose from, starting at $399.
EA had another small spotlight series in their EA Play this week. The spotlight this time around was on the independent studios underneath the EA Originals banner. The panel went into the backgrounds of some of the key members of each studio represented during EA Play with a goal for viewers to connect to the minds behind each of their favorite indie games. EA will have their Gaming Showcase EA Play this week, on Thursday, the 22nd.
In addition to the already mentioned and highly anticipated release of Skyward Sword HD, this week we also saw the releases of many other games. On the 12th, Claire de Lune (PC) was released; on the 13th Curved Space (Switch) and Where the Heart Leads (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4) were released; and on the 15th, Lost At Sea (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC) was released. July 16th had a few games released, including F1 2021 (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC); Observer: System Redux (PlayStation 4, Xbox One); and Space Jam: A New Legacy (Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One).
