Game Bytes: EA Rumored To Want A Buyer, MultiVersus Interest Explodes
We are closing in on June and that means the Not E3 preparations are well on their way, a certain new free game took the video game world by storm this week and EA might be trying to sell itself.
The internet was set ablaze by the announcement of the new game called MultiVersus. MultiVersus is a free to play Smash Bros-like fighting game featuring characters owned by Warner Bros. In the trailer that dropped we saw Iron Man team up with Superman and Shaggy go super saiyan. The game, unlike Nickelodeon All Star Brawl, will be fully voice acted and by the iconic voices of each character which set it apart from some other Smash clones. MultiVersus will launch on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. The closed alpha test runs May 19-27, and an open beta has been announced for July.
Electronic Arts is reportedly seeking a sale or merger, and it’s claimed that the video game publisher and developer has held talks with Disney, Apple, Amazon, and Comcast. over a possible deal. It’s unclear which were interested in fully purchasing EA and which were looking to merge. According to the site Puck, the original and single source of the rumor, Comcast was looking to merge its NBC Universal division with EA..
While E3 is canceled again this year and likely not to return in the future, it leaves an empty spot of gaming time in the month of June. Luckily there will still be a handful of gaming news coming out in June. So far Sony, Nintendo, Devolver Digital, Square Enix and Ubisoft have yet to announce any events of their own or any combined events. Hardspace:Shipbreaker (PC) releases on the 24th with Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds (PC, iOS, Android), Roller Champions (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC) and Sniper Elite 5 (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) on the 26th. The 27th ends our week with Arcade Spirits: The New Challengers (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC), Kao the Kangaroo (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC), Microsoft Flight Simulator: Top Gun Maverick DLC (Xbox Series X/S, PC) and Pac-Man Museum+ (Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC) all releasing.
