HasCon 2017 Puts Family Fun On The Table

HasCon is a brand new convention that differs from most conventions in the New England area for two reasons. HasCon, which took place in the Providence Convention Center on September 8th, 9th and 10th in Providence, RI.,  is run by Hasbro and only promotes Hasbro products, from Transformers to Dungeons & Dragons to My Little Pony. It is the first convention in this area where one company and its products is the focus of the show. The second reason is that this convention is family-focused.

What I mean by “family-focused” is that this con was created so that families, even with very young children, can enjoy all sorts of activities together. There was face painting, “human-sized” board games, troll hair-styling, Nerf gun wars, pictures with Sesame Street and other characters, and so many other activities where families can have fun together.

This convention wasn’t cosplayer heavy. Most of the Magic The Gathering players  played in a large area on the third floor. Toy collectors checked out the Transformer and Star Wars exclusives. But kids ruled this con. Unlike most cons, there were many children at HasCon, having so much fun, playing so many games. Among those cosplayers that did show up and are in the gallery below are Cosplay Dad.

Would I come back to this con? Absolutely. As a fan of board games, it was great to see new tabletop ideas and new twists on classic games like Monopoly and Clue. It’s probably the only con I can think of where I can bring the entire family and everyone will have fun. Fans of comic book and anime conventions may not find this con to their liking, but now the muggles and their families have found a convention of their own.
