Hatsune Miku And Vocaloids Retrospective Gallery

In late February the news broke that Crypton Future Media, the creator of the virtual singer Hatsune Miku and the other Vocaloids, will develop an original animated series about Miku, with studio Graphic India. Not just an anime, but also comics and a Webtoons. The series, according to the article on Deadline, will “combine live-action, animation and music.”

Hatsune Miku began life as a human voice instrument for a synthesizer, so people could play someone singing. A character mascot was designed for the software, which became an animated singer for some of the tracks created using the synthesizer software and eventually an entire back story of the virtual singers called Vocaloids was born.

While Miku is popular among cosplayers, I was surprised that I barely broke a count of 20 images in this gallery — and then only because I included other Vocaloids. I guess that part of the reason for that is that there are so many designs and costumes for Miku that I had a hard time identifying them as Miku. Add in the popularity of light blue hair in twin pigtails among characters from other fandoms and I was often at a loss as to what name to call out to a cosplayer to get their attention.

Cosplayers in this short gallery include Atlantic Cosplay, lzj4cos, riveth88, and more.

We now use Smugmug to present cosplay photo galleries and will post all photos there, with a link to each gallery in its own gallery article. This will allow us to give you higher resolution images to download — still for free.
