Hyrule Warriors Could Rule the Wii U
One game that has always been a guilty pleasure of mine is one of the Dynasty Warrior games. Though they may not be the best of games, playing alongside one of my friends made for a fun time.
So you could color me super surprised when I found out there was a Dynasty Warrior-style Legend of Zelda game in the works for Nintendo Wii U. Not kidding you, Hyrule Warriors is a game in production by Toei. Taking place in the Hyrule Kingdom, you can play as multiple different characters, such as a newer incarnation of Link, Zelda (pictured above), fan favorite Impa, and even Midna — and don’t worry there are more characters on the way.
Each character has their own unique move set, and so far all characters are looking amazing. Their new looks and design are incredible, and I look forward to seeing cosplayers bring them to life at future conventions.
Mixing the over-the-top, hack and slash gameplay of a Dynasty Warriors game, with the characters of Legend of Zelda on its own makes for an interesting gameplay concept. Seeing Link mix together his sword play with his bombs, Fire Rod, and using them in ways he doesn’t normally use them surprised me, and I found it very interesting. Taking on enemies from previous Zelda games, you will see lots of nods to older games. Having the Twilight Dragon from Twilight Princess, and the Moon from Majora’s Mask in the same stage was really awesome. I was surprised at how good it looks.
Speaking of looks, the graphic power of the Wii U shines, as the game has stunning visuals. With the Wii U not doing so well in the console race, they need games that will help make it even more appealing, and I believe Hyrule Warriors will be that game along with a few others. I am looking forward to seeing what other characters will be making it into this game.
I am really hoping for a playable Ganondorf, but until more info comes, be prepared for Hyrule Warriors coming to consoles Sept. 26.
