KatsuCon 2018 Friday Cosplay Gallery by Wonderllama Photo

Somehow, even after 5+ years in the cosplay and photography world, I’ve never been to the big dance of anime conventions, Katsucon. I’ve heard about the incredible venue, the unbelievable cosplays, and the sheer madness but timing never worked out.

When I had the chance to be part of the Nerd Caliber team heading down, I jumped. Wow. It was three and a half days of running around the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, meeting people, finding interesting locations and carving out space for photos, and trying to remember to eat. I caught up with friends I only see 1-2 times a year, at cons. I watched — and shot — an incredible Disney marriage proposal. I think I slept.

Trying to finding a sliver of open space for photos was often the biggest challenge at Katsu. With so many cosplayers and photographers, there were impromptu shoots everywhere, and snagging a shot with someone required persistence and creativity. Thankfully, nearly everyone was friendly and accommodating, and we got some great photos.
