Katsucon 2019 Friday Gallery by Wonderllama Photo
I returned for a second year to Katsucon this past weekend, and it was every bit as amazing as my first year.
Much has been written about the convention’s new policy of restricting access to the entire Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center to only people staying at the resort and those with Katsucon badges. This was done in an attempt to reduce the large number of people who “lobby con” Katsucon, spending all their time in the enormous atrium. If you’ve never been, the entire area inside the arms of the U-shaped hotel is covered with a glass ceiling and front wall, many stories tall.
Even though a number of well-known cosplayers and photographers created a counter-programming event this past weekend at the MGM resort less than a mile away, crowds at Katsucon were about the same as last year, at least to my eyes. Because the new policy didn’t seem to reduce the number of people coming to the convention or staying at the Gaylord, I would expect this to be the policy going forward.
And the new policy didn’t reduce the quality of the cosplay either. The resort and the National Seashore area it sits in, on the Potomac River, provides such wonderful scenic backgrounds for cosplay photography, cosplayers bring their most impressive designs to get tons of photographs.
Cosplayers in this gallery include: Cassie Valor, Aemiliaaaaaaa, Revivibarton, Dollychuu, Suchamantis, Mhysa Cosplay, HappyAcornCosplay, Moonie Warrior Cosplay, MsGinnyLiz, Jasminegg_cosplay, Penberly, Shadow_Prince_Cosplay, The_Minidalorian, WickedKumiho, SammyTann, Spitzpunk, OChrstianQuinn, Thehypnorealm, Blueelectracosplay, ShanClaw, and many more.
