Katsucon 2023 Saturday Night Gallery by Wonderllama Photo
Most people know that Katsucon is famous for its late-night fun: dance parties ’til 4 a.m., fantastic drinking costumes, and friendly get-togethers in the Gaylord’s open areas. This year, it’s also becoming known as the No Fun After Dark Convention. By 12 a.m., event staff rigorously controlled all public spaces by shutting down music and preventing people from hanging out at the gazebo level, the lobby or the fountain area. At a con infamous for after-hours partying and hanging out, this change in policy irritated seemingly everyone; conversations the next day speculated about the apparent crack-down and its potential repercussions for the con itself, as well as concern for guests forced to party in rooms instead of public spaces.
Fortunately, the usual parade of incredible second-shift cosplay was on display all evening. I was able to get great photos with some truly fantastic cosplayers. Some of my favorite shots are of fantastliv as She-Ra and haus.of.mel as Lady Gaga (if you’ve seen Harley Quinn on HBO Max, you know it’s impossible not to hear Alan Tudyk’s Clayface saying “Lady gaGAH!”).
Cosplayers in the Saturday night gallery include: snowsongcosplay; _ladylydia_; sfacosplay; lordarchanon; haus.of.mel; hhnfogsmell; teenashaw; creationswithchadly; hank_pym; xx_harleyboo_xx; rulerofpebbles; and fantastliv.
