Lando Drops Hint About Possible New Star Wars Series

During a Q&A panel at Rhode Island Comic Con today in Providence, R.I., Billy Dee Williams himself let slip some news (OK, some hints at news) about what may be a new Star Wars series that doesn’t seem to be on the radar.

In response to a question from the audience about some of his recent TV roles, Williams said that he was about to head over to Netflix “Monday or Tuesday” to shoot a pilot. He then said it was something called “Rebels, or something” before his emcee must have given him a signal and Williams said he wasn’t supposed to talk about it.

That led someone in the audience to ask loudly “Did you say ‘Rebels’?”, to which Williams again responded that he couldn’t talk about it.

If it is to be a pilot for a show on Netflix, it can’t be the already announced CGI animation show “Star Wars: Rebels,” as that show will premiere on Disney, and then show its episodes on its home of DisneyXD, according to Comic Book Resources, which cited the actual “Rebels” panel from New York Comic Con.

Now maybe Williams misspoke about the name of the show, or maybe he misspoke about the network or company he was making it for. Or maybe, just maybe, Lando Calrissian just showed his hand in the high-stakes poker game of Star Wars spinoffs, and there is another series in the works.

I will try to get clarification on this, but if no one is supposed to be talking, it could be tough. Stay tuned.
