Mad Moxxi Cosplay Retrospective Gallery
Today is World Bartender Day and the best known bartender in nerd fandoms is crazy, sexy (and crazy sexy) Mad Moxxi from the Borderlands series of games. Technically she is one of the most common providers of side quests in the various games, but in most of them Moxxi was the owner and hostess of various bars, taverns, and other places one could get a drink.
Because of her creative character design and her in-game history as someone wildly forward about her sexuality, Moxxi has been very popular among cosplayers. Since her first appearance in the DLC for the original Borderlands game, Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot, in late 2009, Moxxi’s design has changed in details but not much in overall look. The top hat, the booty shorts, the ringmaster’s tail coat — they are consistent across the various games in the franchise.
So it’s surprising to me that I’ve only taken around 30 photos of Moxxi cosplayers. She does have a special place in my heart, since one of the very first feature sets I ever photographed for this site was of Jessica Nigri cosplaying Moxxi. Of course, in searching for information for this post I discovered that those photos are the ones most stolen without credit and posted to blogs and webpages.
